With an approach that spans from cradle to career, United Way works to shift the odds to ensure every child gets a strong start in life, teenagers have the tools to learn and grow, and young adults thrive in the job market.
Orleans Parish Summer Impact Grants
United Way of Southeast Louisiana is continuing its mission to enhance the number and quality of summer services available to children and youth in New Orleans, providing $100,000 in grant funding to 13 Orleans Parish nonprofits aligned with the New Orleans Youth Master Plan (YMP) and focused on serving young people of color, ages 11 to 24, living below the ALICE Threshold. 2023 PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Friends of the New Orleans Library purchased supplies for hands-on programs, including Lego robotics, pasta making with Chef Maya, and science experiments for older teens.
At About F.A.C.E. Youth, students worked with a licensed professional counselor who offered guidance to facilitators on how to steer post-role play discussions. Facilitator’s expertise enhanced the participants' self-awareness and emotional insights.
Youth trained in program planning, management, and hard and soft skills to grow their ideas into businesses or nonprofits at RE(ad) Treat. Skills included creating and managing a budget, building spreadsheets, designing flyers, promoting events, and more.
2022 SUMMER IMPACT GRANTS REPORT
In 2022, UWSELA and Baptist Community Ministries distributed $500,000 in Summer Impact Grants to 37 Orleans Parish summer program providers focused on serving young people of color ages 11-24, living below the ALICE Threshold, to deepen services to children and youth.

The NOLA Coalition
As a member of the NOLA Coalition, United Way is overseeing the coalition’s first round of youth investments via the Youth Master Plan (YMP) Grants. More information on giving and future funding opportunities through the coalition will be available at NOLACoalition.info.

Two reviewers (an adult and a youth) read each eligible application to obtain an average score to determine program funding. The estimated time to read a proposal is one hour, with 8-10 proposals assigned per reader. Volunteer reviewers are chosen based on their knowledge, education, and lived experience.

The NOLA Coalition announced in October the first round of recipients for its Youth Master Plan grant opportunity. The group awarded $906,300 in funding to 23 Orleans Parish nonprofits serving children and youth – birth to 24 – living at or below the ALICE Threshold.
