United Way of Southeast Louisiana partners with Verizon and Hyfi on Stormwater Detection Sensors
Groundbreaking sensor installation program to be announced throughout greater New Orleans area

United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA), Verizon and Hyfi
WHAT:
UWSELA and Verizon are proud to announce the installation of high-tech, low-cost stormwater sensors throughout greater New Orleans, made possible by startup platform Hyfi, winner of Verizon’s Inaugural Climate Resilience Prize competition. The stormwater sensor devices and associated platform will have the potential to provide stormwater managers with an unprecedented level of information through a real-time map that infers flood conditions. New Orleans is the first national market to benefit from the partnership. UWSELA, Verizon and Hyfi will present the sensor’s functionality, benefits, and rollout plan at a press conference, as well as facilitate a series of community information sessions on details of the program, stormwater management, disaster prep and financial preparedness.

WHY:
The partnership between UWSELA and Verizon aims to leverage resources and Verizon’s cellular network to raise awareness about the stormwater detection sensors and the role of aiding the greater New Orleans community during flood events. Data collection and critical flood notifications provided through Hyfi’s game-changing technology seeks to educate communities to make informed decisions and stay safe in emergencies during hurricane season and year-round.
