United Way requests material donations, volunteers to support
families struggling to survive after Hurricane Ida
Drop-off locations in Mandeville, New Orleans to receive water, toiletries, mitigation supplies
NEW ORLEANS - United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA) is requesting public donations of water, new toiletries and mitigation supplies for families and nonprofits affected by Hurricane Ida.
UWSELA is also calling for volunteers at each site to help receive donations, organize supplies and prepare deliveries. Must be 12+ and satisfy COVID-19 requirements. View open shifts, register and read full eligibility requirements at UnitedWaySELA.org/IdaRelief.
Requested supplies include:
• Water and sports drinks
• Baby formula
• Toiletries: e.g., soap, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, cotton swabs, lip balm, feminine hygiene products, infant and adult diapers, wipes
• Mitigation supplies: e.g., blue plastic tarps, rolled plastic, hand tools (e.g., hammers, skill saws, prybars), boxes, plastic bags, work gloves, cleaning rags, detergent, disinfectant, bleach, mops, brooms, plastic buckets, scrub brushes, dust masks, shovels, rakes
Food, clothing, toys, and books will not be accepted at this time. All items must be new and unused.
The public can drop off donations Monday through Thursday beginning Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following two locations:
• Northshore: St. Tammany Oaks Church of Christ | 3700 LA-59, Mandeville, LA 70471
Please follow directional signage to drop-off point
• Southshore: United Way of Southeast Louisiana | 2515 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119
Please pull in the building’s freight zone on Canal Street for drop-offs
The United Way HandsOn Entergy Volunteer Center will coordinate the distribution of supplies via nonprofit partners and faith-based organizations to vulnerable families throughout UWSELA’s seven-parish service area, including Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. Drop-off locations will not distribute supplies to the public.
Please note, anyone driving into the region to deliver supplies must ensure they have enough fuel to return safely. View gas availability through services like Gas Buddy.
