Southeast Louisiana donors, volunteers joined millions around the world participating in the global generosity movement
NEW ORLEANS – This GivingTuesday, observed Dec. 3, United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA) joined forces with its community partners to power change throughout Southeast Louisiana and create a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone.
On this global day of giving, UWSELA helped 38 of its programmatic grantees raise $28,379 through online giving. The two top fundraisers in their respective categories, Son of a Saint and the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights, will each receive an additional $5,000 toward their organization’s total.
To create even more local impact on GivingTuesday, UWSELA and partners United with community members to volunteer at a building expansion project at Audubon Gentilly Charter. Collectively, the event generated over $2,100 in economic impact through volunteerism.
“We’re so thankful to our community for coming together and giving of their time and resources in a big way on GivingTuesday,” said UWSELA President & CEO Michael Williamson. “There’s no better illustration of the impact we can have when we work together to make our community stronger.”
Every single act of volunteerism and donation on Dec. 3 was amplified by the sheer number of people from Southeast Louisiana who joined in to aid organizations which support the community cornerstones of health, education and financial stability.
GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.
GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 14.2 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.
