I am blessed to have known Nancy Marsiglia for the past 30 years and was deeply touched by her extraordinary love for the city of New Orleans and her devotion to enriching the lives of others. As one of the first 50 Founders of our Women’s Leadership Council in 2002, Nancy’s volunteer leadership was instrumental in the formation of United Way’s Success By 6 initiative, ensuring that all children, regardless of income, received access to high-quality early education and were ready to learn before entering kindergarten. That work became the bedrock on which our entire Education investment pipeline was built.
Our paths crossed often as I witnessed her extraordinary political skill and mentorship to U.S. senators, Presidential candidates, state and local candidates. She was a master at fundraising and a tireless champion during our region’s recovery following Hurricane Katrina. Nancy's real passion was always Louisiana's children and she worked daily with United Way and other partnering organizations to ensure the expansion of high-quality programs for at-risk children. She redefined the meaning of the word “advocate”, and our appreciation for her service and commitment to United Way’s Public Policy agenda cannot be measured.
Nancy was a loyal and trusted friend to all who had the privilege of working alongside her. She enriched the lives of those in need, and of all of us at United Way. Her light will shine over this great city and state forever because Nancy's love will last forever.
