Together, with 800 corporate partners, 3,400 volunteers, and more than 20,000 donors, United Way of Southeast Louisiana is fighting for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. The Face of Change series highlights individuals within this mosaic of impact, their unique contributions to our community, and motivations for supporting United Way. This month, meet Michelle Delery, Director of Employee and Communications Services at Entergy.
What is your role with United Way? What do you do in this role?
I serve on the Executive Committee of Women United, which pools the collective knowledge and resources of more than 150 women who live and work in this community. My primary role is chairing the Events and Membership Engagement Committee. Through participation in Women United, we have been able to invest in, advocate for, and positively impact the lives of women and children living in our community. Our committee is responsible for recruiting more women – and men with similar interests – to join.
How long have you been involved with United Way?
I’ve participated in various United Way initiatives throughout my adult life, but I’ve been actively involved in Women United for approximately three years.
What motivates you to give, advocate, and volunteer?
If everyone would take the time to put themselves in the shoes of others, they would quickly realize that everyone needs compassion, friendship, and sometimes a helping hand. Everyone!
What is one thing about United Way that you think people should know?
United Way is genuinely advocating for the most vulnerable among us. Our former CEO at Entergy, J. Wayne Leonard, often talked about caring for the most vulnerable. Wayne recently passed away, but even newer employees, who may have never met him, understand the undeniable mark he left on the company, our leaders, and the things we value.
What’s your favorite karaoke song?
Rappers Delight (am I showing my age?)
What’s the #1 thing on your bucket list?
I just checked it off the list. It was to own a yoga studio, which I recently opened with my husband in Algiers Point. So while I’ve been a student, now I need to become a certified teacher.
