Celebrating 211 Day: Your Lifeline to Help and Hope

Celebrating 211 Day: Your Lifeline to Help and Hope

What Is 211 and Why Does It Matter?

Tens of thousands of people rely on 211 every day to find essential support when they need it most. After the tragic New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street, affected residents were having trouble navigating the things they needed to help them recover. To assist, we awarded a $10,000 grant to VIA LINK from our United for New Orleans Relief Fund. The grant funded a centralized support line, ensuring the public could access aid, resources, and crisis counseling.

All they had to do was dial 211.

How 211 Helps Our Community

In 2024 alone, VIA LINK helped nearly 70,000 people across the region meet their needs through 211 – a 24/7, free, and confidential service.

211 is more than just a referral service. It’s a trusted connection to resources that address the root causes of hardships. Here's how 211 makes a tangible impact:

  • Disaster Relief – During hurricanes and floods, 211 provides real-time updates on evacuation plans, shelters, and recovery services.
  • Housing & Utility Assistance – 211 helps individuals find emergency shelters, rental assistance, and programs to keep their utilities running.
  • Food Security – From food pantries to meal delivery programs, 211 connects families with resources to fight hunger.
  • Childcare & Family Services – Parents can find affordable childcare, education programs, and parenting support through 211.
